Every day we can be seen working in the area. We keep a photo and video diary of the work.

At the geothermal power station building site, in the tram terminal loop on the corner of the Zuidwoldestraat and the Leyweg:
The steel construction of the building is ready. The steel plates are mounted on the construction of the building. (January 2011)

At the geothermal power station building site, in the tram terminal loop on the corner of the Zuidwoldestraat and the Leyweg:
The floor of the geothermal power station is ready. The steel construction of the building is put in place. (December)

At the drilling site, along the Leyweg:
The drilling is done and that means that the drilling site can be tidied up. The drilling equipment is taken down and transported, followed by the soundproofing wall. The location is fully cleared. Only the two well covers for the geothermal spring can still be seen. The work will continue until mid December. (November)

At the drilling site, along the Leyweg:
The injection well is tested. From the results it appears that the well can process 150 m3 of water per hour. The second well is also a success and that means that the drilling is completed. (November)

At the geothermal power station building site, in the tram terminal loop on the corner of the Zuidwoldestraat and the Leyweg:
The construction of the geothermal power station is going according to plan. The steel construction, the framework of the building, is being fixed to the floor. (November)

At the drilling site, along the Leyweg:
The drilling of the second well, the injection well, was done very quickly and is more than 2,000 metres deep. (October)

At the geothermal power station building site, in the tram terminal loop on the corner of the Zuidwoldestraat and the Leyweg:
The floor of the geothermal power station is laid. (October)

At the geothermal power station building site, in the tram terminal loop on the corner of the Zuidwoldestraat and the Leyweg:
The work floor of geothermal power station is laid. (October)

At the drilling site, along the Leyweg:
The 38 metre high drilling equipment is placed eight metres above the place where the second well, the injection well, will be drilled. (September)

At the drilling site, along the Leyweg:
The production well is being tested here and from the results it appears that the well can produce 150 m3 of water with a temperature of 75 degrees Celsius. That is more than enough to heat the proposed homes and companies. (September)

At the drilling site, along the Leyweg:
The drilling of the first well is more than two kilometres deep. The well is being cemented here so that they can then drill down to the final depth. Then the well will be tested. (September)

At the geothermal power station building site, in the tram terminal loop on the corner of the Zuidwoldestraat and the Leyweg:
After the under flooring has been laid, here the reinforcement is being put on. This forms the base of the final floor. (September)

At the geothermal power station building site, in the tram terminal loop on the corner of the Zuidwoldestraat and the Leyweg:
The under flooring is laid. (August)

At the geothermal power station building site, in the tram terminal loop on the corner of the Zuidwoldestraat and the Leyweg:
The pile driving work is being done. The contractor is progressing with the construction of the power station. (August)

At the geothermal power station building site, in the tram terminal loop on the corner of the Zuidwoldestraat and the Leyweg:
The contractor has started the pile driving work. This work will take a few days. Once the piles have been driven, we will continue with the building of the geothermal power station. (August)

At the geothermal power station building site, in the tram terminal loop on the corner of the Zuidwoldestraat and the Leyweg:
In the second week of August the ground in the tram terminal loop is prepared for the building works. The contractor used sand cars and an excavator to get the ground to the right height and get it ready for the building of the geothermal power station. This work took about a week. (August)

At the geothermal power station building site, in the tram terminal loop on the corner of the Zuidwoldestraat and the Leyweg:
In a few weeks the contractor has already done the work to prepare the ground. Cable pipes have been placed under the tram rails where the geothermal pipes and cables will later be put in place. (July)

At the drilling site, along the Leyweg:
On July 15th around midnight phase 2 of the drilling started. The start was actually one week earlier than proposed, but due to circumstances there was some delay.
The workers will be continuously drilling for the next 80 days: 24 hours per day, seven days a week. This has to be done to keep the drilling well intact. Besides, through this the length of time that the drilling work goes on is restricted as much as possible so there is the least possible disruption for the neighbours. (July)

At the drilling site, along the Leyweg:
A huge screen is placed around the head of drilling tower to muffle the noise from the drill pipes. The head is being lifted up here. The drilling equipment is now ready for the drilling. (July)

At the drilling site, along the Leyweg:
The yellow drilling equipment is being built up futher and the ground is being prepared for the drilling.(July)

At the drilling site, along the Leyweg:
The first parts of the 38 metre high drilling tower have arrived and are being put together at the site. (June)

At the drilling site, along the Leyweg:
The soundproofing wall is ready. The wall consists of 80 containers: four containers high and 20 containers wide. (June)

At the drilling site, along the Leyweg:
The soundproofing wall will be close to the HTM tramlines. To avoid dangerous situations and to make sure that the construction work and HTM’s logistics don’t hinder one another, the construction work has to be done when there is no tram traffic and when there is no voltage on the overhead cables. The construction of the soundproofing wall is therefore done at night between 2.00 and 5.00 hours. The construction will take two nights. (June)

At the drilling site, along the Leyweg:
80 containers will be used to build the soundproofing wall. The containers are transported by truck to the Leyweg. (June)

At the drilling site, along the Leyweg:
Finally grounding is placed around the asphalt. (May)

At the drilling site, along the Leyweg:
A 40 mm thick coating is put onto the underlay. (May)

At the drilling site, along the Leyweg:
The working area is being asphalted. BAM starts by putting on a 60 mm thick underlay. (May)

At the drilling site, along the Leyweg:
The concrete floor is poured and finished using levellers. It takes 16 days for the concrete floor to fully harden. (May)

At the drilling site, along the Leyweg:
After the grounding has been put in, grills are put in the environmental drains. (May)

At the drilling site, along the Leyweg:
Environmental drains are placed around the two drilling holes. Grounding is put in the drains. (May)

At the drilling site, along the Leyweg:
The drilling well is put in place, the link seals are put on and the steel cable pipe that will later lie under the asphalt is laid. (May)

At the drilling site, along the Leyweg:
The conductor pipe is delivered and is put in place. (May)

At the drilling site, along the Leyweg:
Once the pre-drilling is done the work area can be set up for the second phase of the drilling. The work area is being dug out further and the sand is being removed. (May)

At the drilling site, along the Leyweg:
On Monday 1st March 2010 the start sign was given for the start of the drilling. In the next three weeks the first 250 metres will be drilled using a small drilling machine. (March)

At the drilling site, along the Leyweg:
The ground is being thoroughly dug out and prepared for drilling 250 metres deep. (February)

At the drilling site, along the Leyweg:
The drilling site is fenced off before the work begins. (February)

At the geothermal power station building site, in the tram terminal loop on the corner of the Zuidwoldestraat and the Leyweg:
The building in the terminal loop is demolished. At a future date the geothermal power station will be built here. The demolition work will be completed in December. (November)
