The Geothermal Heat The Hague Partnership (Aardwarmte Den Haag v.o.f.) is formed by the Municipality of The Hague, the energy companies Eneco and E.ON Benelux and the housing corporations Staedion, Vestia and Haag Wonen. Six different organisations with their own ambitions. The geothermal heat project contributes in varying ways to the ambitions of the individual parties.

The Municipality of The Hague wants to develop a CO2 neutral city. The Municipality is committed to innovations that contribute to the development of a CO2 neutral (sustainable) city and invests in this through making the financial means available, providing facilities for the parties and collaborating with energy companies and housing corporations.

Staedion sees its contribution to a better environment as its social task. More can be achieved with less energy. It is important that our homes become more energy efficient, for the environment and because energy is becoming increasingly more expensive. Moreover, we think that it is important to invest in sustainable energy forms. Sustainable energy produces an enormous CO2 saving so through this Staedion is providing a fine contribution towards a better climate.

Vestia’s objective is to make living expenses manageable. The principle behind this is that our resident’s dependence on fossil fuels must be reduced, through which the influence of price increases proportionately decreases. Thus: chose for natural sources (earth, water, sun, air) and draw energy from that for heating, tap water and refrigeration. Without doubt CO2 reduction plays a very great role.

Haag Wonen wants to make a contribution to the Municipality of The Hague’s objective of being a CO2 neutral city by 2040. Participating in Geothermal Heat The Hague helps towards this. Also Haag Wonen is developing new building projects in a sustainable way and is making its existing homes more sustainable. Haag Wonen is the first big housing corporation where 98 percent of its property has been given an energy label.

Geothermal Heat The Hague fits seamlessly into Eneco’s sustainability strategy. Eneco’s objective for 2012 is that 20 percent of the energy it produces should be sustainable and it anticipates that this could be 100 percent by 2030. Eneco can’t preserve energy on their own, therefore they participate together with other parties in projects. Geothermal Heat The Hague is a good example of this. Together with their partners, Eneco makes a contribution towards making The Hague a clean and sustainable city.

E.ON thinks that it is important to take part in projects that make use of natural energy from the earth. E.ON is confident about this technique and readily invests in the future. E.ON is of the opinion that there are opportunities for synergy within The Hague’s district heating activities. E.ON has already been active for a long time in the large scale production of energy and heating. Also they are involved in energy preservation and energy generation.
