Geothermal Heat The Hague

Safe, sustainable and environmentally friendly

Geothermal Heat The Hague is an initiative set up by several parties to provide residential areas with heating in a safe, sustainable and environmentally friendly way.

The Hague is going for a better climate

Geothermal Heat The Hague is an alliance between the Municipality of the Hague, the energy companies E.ON Benelux and Eneco and the housing corporations Staedion, Vestia and Haag Wonen. These parties want to work together towards a better climate. The Hague is the first city in the Netherlands that is using deep geothermal heat for providing residential areas with heating. In the coming years approximately 4,000 homes and some companies The Hague South West will be connected to geothermal heat.

Support from the Unique Kansen Regeling (Unique Opportunities Ruling)

The project is made possible by subsidy support from the Unique Opportunities Ruling. SenterNovem is implementing this, commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Advantages for the environment

Advantages for the environment

By using this clean source of energy no CO2 is released and that is a huge advantage for the environment. And that makes a difference. 5,000 metric tons less CO2 per year will be released, that is the same as the emissions from 2,300 cars. Also we will save 7 million m3 of natural gas per year.
